American Option Pricing and Exercising with Transaction Costs
2005
In this paper we examine the problem of finding the reservation option prices and corresponding exercise policies of American options in a market with proportional transaction costs using the utility based approach proposed by Davis and Zariphopoulou (1995). We present a model where the option holder has a constant absolute risk aversion. We discuss the numerical algorithm and propose a new characterization of the option holder's value function. We suggest original discretization schemes for computing reservation prices and exercise policies of American options. The discretization schemes are implemented for the cases of American put and call options. We present the study of the optimal tra…
Simultaneous Noise and Impedance Fitting to Transition-Edge Sensor Data using Differential Evolution
2019
We discuss a robust method to simultaneously fit a complex model both to the complex impedance and the noise data for transition-edge sensors (TES). It is based on a differential evolution (DE) algorithm, providing accurate and repeatable results with only a small increase in computational cost compared to the standard least squares (LS) fitting method. Test fits are made using both DE and LS methods, and the results compared with previously determined best fits, with varying initial value deviations and limit ranges for the parameters. The robustness of DE is demonstrated with successful fits even when parameter limits up to a factor of 5 from the known values were used. It is shown that t…
Lifetime of the superconductive state in short and long Josephson junctions
2008
We study the transient statistical properties of short and long Josephson junctions under the influence of thermal and correlated fluctuations. In particular, we investigate the lifetime of the superconductive metastable state finding the presence of noise induced phenomena. For short Josephson junctions we investigate the lifetime as a function both of the frequency of the current driving signal and the noise intensity and we find how these noise-induced effects are modified by the presence of a correlated noise source. For long Josephson junctions we integrate numerically the sine-Gordon equation calculating the lifetime as a function of the length of the junction both for inhomogeneous a…

Direct assessment of the sensitivity drift of SQM sensors installed outdoors
2021
Long-term monitoring of the evolution of the artificial night sky brightness is a key tool for developing science-informed public policies and assessing the efficacy of light pollution mitigation measures. Detecting the underlying artificial brightness trend is a challenging task, since the typical night sky brightness signal shows a large variability with characteristic time scales ranging from seconds to years. In order to effectively isolate the weak signature of the effect of interest, determining the potential long term drifts of the radiance sensing systems is crucial. If these drifts can be adequately characterized, the raw measurements could be easily corrected for them and transfor…
Optical pulsations from a transitional millisecond pulsar
2017
Weakly magnetic, millisecond spinning neutron stars attain their very fast rotation through a 1E8-1E9 yr long phase during which they undergo disk-accretion of matter from a low mass companion star. They can be detected as accretion-powered millisecond X-ray pulsars if towards the end of this phase their magnetic field is still strong enough to channel the accreting matter towards the magnetic poles. When mass transfer is much reduced or ceases altogether, pulsed emission generated by particle acceleration in the magnetosphere and powered by the rotation of the neutron star is observed, preferentially in the radio and gamma-ray bands. A few transitional millisecond pulsars that swing betwee…

Integrazione di celle fotovoltaiche ibride nel vetromattone
2012
